I didn’t know I was living with eczema (Atopic dermatitis)

I didn’t know I was living with eczema (Atopic dermatitis)

For as long as I can remember I’ve always had troubled skin. In the summer my arms would rash up and get really itchy but I thought it was the heat. My face was always inflated and red. I would try to cover it up with makeup but nothing seemed to be able to conceal it. I hated having to turn to make up because I don’t like foundation and really only own BB cream and concealer so to really cover surface I would have to lather up. After a while, I thought that was just my skin and felt very insecure about it. I tried different moisturizers and sensitive face washes. I knew it couldn’t be my diet because I rarely ate fatty food and my choice of drink was always water.

A friend recommended pure Jojoba Oil and I used it for a year and a half. It helped my skin with its other imperfections and it’s great as a moisturizer so if you don’t have eczema I would 100% recommend it. However, my skin still had a slight red undertone and some days my face would be calm and others plain ugly.

I went through many different products before my dermatologist diagnosed me with Eczema. She gave me a prescribed topical cream and it instantly helped. My face felt fuller and softer and I was finally able to go out with a bare face confident enough to take the world. She also advised I use a cream moisturizer on top of the prescribed cream if it's still really dry.

There are other over the counter creams that might help:

Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin Cream 15ml

Eucerin Eczema Relief Flare-Up Treatment Creme

This is the routine I’ve been doing for about 5 months now:

  1. I wash my face with First Aid Beauty Face Cleanser

  2. After my face has dried a bit I put on the Tropical Cream (It’s good to let you face dry before applying the cream so your pores close up and the cream won’t irritate your face)

  3. If I plan to put on some light makeup I use First Aid Beauty Coconut Skin Smoothie Priming Moisturizer if not I use the same brand Ultra Repair Cream Intense Hydration

Note: I am not an expert on Eczema. This is my experience since I found out I had it and I'm still learning.

Update 12/20/18

My eczema is acting up again and the prescribed medication I was using isn’t working anymore. I have been using coconut oil on my face right after I wash it or get out the shower and try to keep it moist throughout the day with Mario Badescu Facial Spray. The winter is especially harsh because of the dry air and icy wind hopefully my eczema settles and I can resume my usual routine.
